Princess Cruises is keeping up with the Joneses so to speak. With all of the other major cruise lines admitting new ships into their respective fleets, Princess, a subsidiary of Carnival Corp & plc, announced that it has reached an agreement with Fincantieri to build a new ship, which will enter service in 2017.
The ship has been unnamed, but almost certainly will be soon, and it will be a 143,000-ton vessel. The cost of the ship will total approximately 600 million EURO (over $800 million at the time of this article) and it will carry 3,560 passengers. The ship will also feature the same design that made her sisters largely popular, Regal Princess and Royal Princess.
Specific details about the amenities and features of the ship will be revealed in the coming months, along with the ship's deployment schedule. The new ship, however, will certainly include the signature elements of Princess Cruises' guest experiences. These include a soaring central atrium hub with multiple dining, entertainment and retail venues; the adults-only Sanctuary; Movies Under the Stars cinema experience, and 80 percent of all staterooms with balconies. The ship will also include brand-new innovations to enhance the guest experience further, of which the details will be revealed in the coming months.
Access to this new ship or any of Princess' fleet is simple for travelers in the Charlotte area. Although most drives to the ports of embarkation are a bit more than most would like to take, getting to these ports via Charlotte's Douglas International Airport is easy.
