Princess Charlene to visit Australia in 2012

HSH the Princess of Monaco will be making an official visit to Australia in March to open "Grace Kelly: Style Icon" at the Bendigo Art Gallery.  It will be a solo visit by Princess Charlene, as her husband HSH Prince Albert II has a prior engagement at an environmental conference in France.  The Bendigo exhibition highlights the Prince’s mother, the late Princess Grace, by displaying fashion, photography and jewelry from her life.   Previous to becoming a Princess, Grace Kelly had been a successful screen actress, winning an Oscar for her work.  She famously gave up her career to marry Prince Rainier III and went on to have three children, Prince Albert and his sisters Caroline and StephaniePrincess Grace died in a car accident in 1982, Prince Rainier died in 2005.  The exhibition has been touring the world and the Melbourne-based honorary consul of Monaco has been working to bring it ‘down under’.  This will be the first visit to Australia since Charlene married into the Monegasque princely family earlier this year, but it is not her first visit to the country.  Princess Charlene visited Sydney as part of the South African Olympic team on which she was a swimmer.
