The residents of the tiny principality Monaco may celebrate the birth of not one but two babies later this year. HELLO! magazine reported on Sunday, June 8, that 36-years-old Princess Charlene may in fact be pregnant with twins.
Loose lips fueled the rumors of twins. Derek Watts, a South African TV presenter and a close friend of Charlene's father Mike Whittstock, excitedly tweeted that Mike had called to tell him that Charlene is pregnant with twins. It seems that Derek quickly realized that the news was not for him to tell as he deleted the tweet right after posting it.
This isn't the only clue that Charlene is pregnant with twins. Her own father Mike reportedly publicly confirmed the news himself to a newspaper, telling the Benoni City Times that he and his wife are very happy that they'll now have four grandchildren, joining the two that he already has from sons Gareth and Sean. He added that Charlene told him the news about three weeks ago.
It looks as if Charlene better have a talk with her father about not sharing things with others that they're not ready to share yet! She and Albert have not specified whether they're having one or two children. The official statement from the royal household, which was announced on Friday, May 30, simply stated that the prince and princess "are delighted" to announce her pregnancy and that "the birth is expected at the end of the year."
The pregnancy announcement was long overdue for royal watchers, many of whom were wondering what was taking Prince Albert and Princess Charlene so long to have a baby after they got married in July 2011. When the new heir, or possibly heirs, to the throne does arrive, the Monaco royal household will be especially filled with children's laughter since Charlotte Casiraghi and Andrea Casiraghi, Prince Albert's neice and nephew, have both become recent parents.
