Princess Caroline attends annual Princess Grace Awards

HRH Princess Caroline of Hanover, the eldest child of Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace of Monaco, attended the annual Princess Grace Awards in New York today.  Tony Award-winning director Anna D. Shapiro and Denzel and Pauletta Washington were among the honorees at the event held in Manhattan.  The annual awards recognize achievement and promise in artists working in the fields of theatre, dance and choreography and film, fields close to the heart of the late Princess Grace of Monaco.   Shapiro directed August: Osage County and was the recipient of the Princess Grace Statue Award. The honor acknowledges the work of a previous Prince Grace Award recipient who has distinguished him or herself in his or her chosen field.  This year’s Prince Rainier III Award was presented to Denzel and Pauletta Washington in recognition of their careers and philanthropic endeavors.  While Denzel is well known to the public as a dual-Oscar winner for his work in film, Pauletta, who appeared in the film Beloved, oversees the Pauletta and Denzel Washington Family Gifted Scholars Program in Neuroscience at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  It gives awards of as much as $2,500 a month for students to study under the chairman of Cedars-Sinai’s neurosurgery department.  In discussing the award Pauletta said:

“We are so blessed, and we are blessed to be a blessing to others.  That’s our family mantra about giving.  The main thing is to have an appreciation for what we have, and we teach that to our children.”
