England's Princess Beatrice, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, showcased her dramatic weight loss at the 2012 British Fashion Awards in London on Nov. 27.

The newly svelte 5-foot-4 Beatrice sported a demure blue and silver dress that accentuated her slender legs and waist.

The princess, who was mocked by the British press after looking heavy in a bikini photo during a 2008 vacation to St. Barts, said the fat-shaming motivated her to slim down.

"I could probably do with losing the odd pound though, so perhaps it's the kick I need," said Beatrice, 25. "It was such an unflattering bikini and I've got one that's so much nicer, so I could have kicked myself for wearing it."

Beatrice, who has been heavy all her life, reportedly lost almost 30 pounds by running and following a strict low-calorie diet featuring lots of vegetables and fruit.

Beatrice, the cousin of Princes Harry and William (and cousin-in-law to Princess Kate Middleton), got so fit that she became the first royal to run the London Marathon in 2010, finishing in an impressive 5:13:04.

Beatrice, who has been lampooned for her fuller figure over the years, understands that criticism comes with being a public figure, but admits the nasty comments damaged her self-esteem.

"I thought people were a bit mean, although I know it comes with the territory," she said. "The trouble is, I don't have much confidence so it can be quite upsetting."
