This was Fashion Week Examiner's first time at a Costello Tagliapietra show, and we immediately became a fan of the design team's timeless, wearable dresses in muted earth tones and water color prints that recalled volcanic lava.
Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra make dresses that flatter women of all ages and body types, as evidenced by model-turned-"Top Chef" host Padma Lakshmi and actress Susan Sarandon sitting side-by-side in the front row of their runway show at Milk Studios during Fashion Week in New York.
Rolling Stone.com's Thread Count blog described the Fall 2012 collection as "a series of deceptively cheery-looking dresses," and we want one of each. We loved the chic modesty of the wrap dresses and draped and pleated silhouettes. And the pops of color were a welcome departure from the sea of black and gray that dominated other designers' looks.
To switch things up, the collection also included pleated trousers and printed skinny pants, and an asymmetrical sleeve dress in oxblood and an ember-red one shoulder dress added a touch of refined sex appeal.
Costello Tagliapietra is sold at Barneys New York and select specialty boutiques worldwide.
