New father and Duke of Cambridge, Prince William must have picked up a thing or two from his good friend, David Beckham. On October 7, 2013, People reported that the young father was seen playing football with the team in his Queen Grandmother’s lawn in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Football Association. Prince William hosted the first football event at Buckingham Palace.
William went on to say he asked his grandmother, the Queen, if they could hold the football game at Buckingham Palace. "I cannot tell you how excited I am that later today we will be playing football on my grandmother's lawn," he said in his speech opening the event at Buckingham Palace on Monday. "One warning, though: If anyone breaks a window, you can answer to her."
Prince William, the president of the Football Association, was seen wearing bright orange shoes. He was in good spirits, appeared to be enjoying himself playing football. Two of England’s oldest amateur teams also played at the event, Civil Service FC and Polytechnic FC, and were treated to drinks and fruit (oranges) during half time, brought to them by the Queen’s service personnel. The Queen has been a proud supporter of the football association for 61 years. William expressed her regret she could not attend the event.
