Prince Harry and Prince William are in Memphis, Tenn., this weekend attending the wedding of their friend Guy Pelly, a London nightclub owner, to Lizzy Wilson, granddaughter of Kemmons Wilson who founded Holiday Inn. According to a May 3 story on ABC News, the royal brothers are drawing "dozens" of cars outside the Memphis Hunt and Polo Club where the wedding is being held. They are going to be staying at a residence nearby.
There has been a much lower-key crowd around the visit than might be expected. The Memphis Police Chief said that there have been no security problems at all. Of course, if the new royal mom, Kate Middleton, had made the trip with her new son, Prince George, the media circus would have been amped up significantly. That may be why she did not attend the event, in deference to the wedding couple.
Earlier today, the royal visitors toured Graceland, the famous estate of Elvis Presley. They also were able to enjoy traditional Memphis barbecue at a favorite local spot with only a moderate amount of attention. This may be due to the somewhat secretive nature of this trip to Memphis, although there were rumors and speculation about whether Prince William and Prince Harry would attend the wedding.
This trip to the United States is the first in two years as an eligible bachelor for the younger brother, Prince Harry. The BBC reported this week that the feisty prince, almost 30 years old, has had an amicable break-up with his girlfriend of two years, Cressida Bonas, 25. Just when there was beginning to be talk of an upcoming engagement, the couple announced that they were breaking up, although remaining very close friends. There are reports that the excessive media attention was partly to blame for the demise of the relationship. There are surely some hopeful young ladies in Memphis this weekend with Cinderella dreams in their heads as they wait to catch a glimpse of the red-headed prince.
