On Jan.25, Prince took issue with Madonna and Maroon 5 in a new Billboard interview. According to the publication, the outspoken artist went on the record with Billboard for its fresh magazine, which has experienced a new look thanks to a major revamp.
The Los Angeles-based author of the piece went to Prince's turf in Minnesota to endure the frozen tundra known as Minneapolis in order to have a talk with this veteran entertainer who is not one to hold back when he does talk, which is not often.
So, when the subject of Madonna came up, he revisited his decades-long feud with the material girl who he had actually gone out with in the mid-80s. Not only that, but the two sang together for "Love Song."
But that close relationship did not last. Then, after it ended, the two went back and forth to diss each other. Prince and Madge, who once called her former paramour a "little troll," just couldn't stay civil until early 2011 when Madonna allegedly turned up at one of his concerts, according to Rolling Stone magazine.
Whether she will show up again to see him is not known, especially since Prince called her out in a manner of speaking when he once again mentioned the reason for his parting of ways with Warner Bros. in 1996.
He revealed in the Billboard interview, "[Madonna] was getting paid, but..we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights."
Then he softened the blow, saying, "It wasn't about her. This was about business."
As for what Prince had to say in the new Billboard interview about Maroon 5, the solo artist slammed the band for covering his song, "Kiss."
Prince said, "Why do we need to hear another cover of a song someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what's already there."
And so, as Prince subtly slammed Madonna (again) in the new issue of the newly revamped Billboard magazine, he also had stinging words for Maroon 5 as well. And so it goes with the artist who used to be just a symbol, at least in name only.
