Prince did a recent interview with Billboard about his career and the fact they named him the Billboard Awards Icon winner. However, zap2it.com reported on Jan. 22 that Prince also took the time to slam a couple of other artists, namely Madonna and Maroon 5.
The slam against Madonna came when Prince was talking about music rights protection.
One thing that Prince fans know is that his musical performances and songs in general won't be found on YouTube, or anywhere else that his people find them. Prince said he has a team of attorneys to make sure that those leaked performances will never see the light of day online, or anywhere else that won't make the singer some money.
He said that the reason he started to lose popularity, and his later work was so unsuccessful, was because Warner Bros. mishandled his marketing. He then said that it was Madonna's fault. He said that he was more popular and sold more than Madonna, but Warner Bros. gave her all the attention, making Prince start to pump out mass material just to end his relationship with the label.
As for Maroon 5, Prince's problem is that they recorded a cover of his song "Kiss." He said that he doesn't mind covering other bands songs in concert, and paying royalties to do so, he doesn't understand why anyone would cover another band's song for their albums when they should be creating new art.
