Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Prince Philip was admitted to the hospital on the evening of Friday, December 23, 2011 with chest pains.
Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was at Sandringham where the royal family will be celebrating Christmas when the chest pains started. The Prince was transported to Papworth Hospital in Cambridge to undergo tests and evaluation.
Prince Philip, 90, has been healthy and still attends to various charitable events and organizations, although he has started to cut back on work activities and other official duties. He is often seen at the Queen's side at charitable events and other royal engagements.
Prince Philip has been at Sandringham since the beginning of the week. The royal family planned a traditional Christmas celebration at the country estate before starting on a tour to celebrate the Queen's 60th year on the throne, her Diamond Jubilee. Sandringham is located in rural Norfolk.
