As Americans we are aware of the history of slavery in our country and the pain and humiliation faced by the slaves at the hands of their masters. Keeping that painful history in mind it is hard to ignore the story of the slave boy who when set free and allowed to leave with his pleading father, rejected the idea and chose to live with his master.

This is not an American story but a true story nonetheless. I am talking of Zaid a slave boy who was passed down from master to master until he came into the household of a widow.. The widow was married again at the age of 40 to a man who was 15 years her junior. This man was the master that Zaid did not want to leave and when his father came for him this is what Zaid told him:

“Father! Who does not love his parents? My heart is full of love for you and mother. But I love this man, __________, so much that I cannot think of living without him. I have met you and I am glad. But separation from _______________ I cannot endure."

On hearing this, the man Zaid professed his undying devotion to, announced, that from this day on Zaid is my son. Do you have any idea who this man was? If not, then try inserting the name of Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him) in the blank space. And also try to leave your bias behind.

This is just one facet of the man that Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him) was. He was not just a caricature of himself as some self serving radicalized Muslims or those who oppose him would like you to believe. The persona of Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him) is the most debated topic in the world today, and there is a need for the Muslims of the world as well as those of other faiths to come together and learn about his true personality, for if we are to forge a lasting peace in the world it will not materialize where rancor and misunderstandings rule the day.

For this purpose the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA has launched a nationwide "Muhammad: Messenger of Peace” campaign in all of its 73 chapters to invite members of the community to learn about the Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) of Islam. The program includes video presentations and keynote address about the personality and character of the Prophet of Islam.
