HRH Prince Laurent of Belgium was discharged from the hospital yesterday after this week’s skiing accident, but he isn’t out of hot water. The press descended on Austria after hearing the Prince had crashed into another skier and was in the hospital. According to La Meuse, the Prince was disappointed and angry about the press intrusion into his vacation and left early. His wife Princess Claire was quoted as saying: "He is well, back from the hospital, but he is not happy. He knows many journalists are there. And you are not normally part of the holiday decor!” Shortly after some morning runs on the slopes, Princess Claire left as well with their children.
The Prince, long the troublemaker in the Belgian royal family, is apparently returning to a very angry palace. Le Soir reports that on Tuesday, Prince Laurent notified one of his lawyers of the accident but neglected to inform the palace. When the press came calling about the injury the palace had no idea what had occurred. This may further fracture the already delicate relationship between not only the King’s offices, but the King himself.
