Yesterday, November 5, the 26-year-old Prince Harry helped launch a fund-raising project in aid of ABF, the Soldiers' Charity. The event kicked off at the Imperial War Museum in London and will challenge young people to take part in military-style challenges.
Military, royal and civilian participants launch 2011 Soldier Challenge event
Both military personnel and civilians were present at the charity-supporting launch. The challenge will "tour" across London, visiting several military and more standard tourist attractions. Overall, 35 physical challenges will be set, including abseiling and crossing an obstacle course at the Tower of London's moat.
Participants will have four hours to complete as many challenges as possible, before returning to the end camp at the Royal Chelsea Hospital gardens by the River Thames.
The Soldier Challenge event will take place next March and an "event village" will be set up with information booths, souvenirs and refreshments. The charity provides support to serving and retired soldiers, along with their families.
Prince Harry meets Bear Grylls, Chief Scout of the International Scout Association
Prince Harry met several people intending to take the challenge, and also encountered the noted stunt artist and Chief Scout of the Scout Association, Bear Grylls. He watched as Grylls took a zip-line down from the roof of the museum.
Grylls joked that Prince Harry had been saying the ropes looked frayed and the harness "dodgy." Nevertheless, the stunt went off without a hitch, literally or figuratively. Others, including the Tomas family from the New Forest, followed him down the wire.
On a more serious note, Grylls put out a call to support the soldiers and the charity event. "Soldiers themselves are very proud and don't admit to needing help, and therefore when they do, it really is genuine."
