Prince George is scheduled to be christened in the Chapel Royal at St. James' Palace, according to Yahoo! News on Oct. 20. This is a new tradition being born regarding the royals since protocol up until now has been that this type of ceremony has been conducted in Buckingham Palace.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, less formally known as Wills and Kate, have decided the royal christening of their little bundle who will one day be the King of England will be presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The service itself will take place on Oct. 23, and will be a private affair that will be 45 minutes long. During this ceremony, four different generations of royals were be present and will be captured for the world to see in an official photo.
So, when Prince George is christened, get ready to see Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George all in the same image. This is the first time this has happened in more than a century.
Meanwhile, in an actual first, a newly minted coin to commemorate Prince George's christening has already gone into production at The Royal Mint. Never before has a fresh coin to be used by all of the United Kingdom ever been produced expressly to mark a royal christening.
And so, as Prince George of Cambridge is formally christened on Oct. 23, his future subjects are all going to be able to get their hands on a special coin that is both elegant and also spendable, for some a winning combination for sure.
