Prince Charles, Prince of Wales went on board the HMS Northumberland earlier today March 19, 2013 in Muscat, Oman to meet with Royal Marine Commandos and members of the British Royal Navy who have been battling pirates, gun and drug runners in the Indian Ocean.
The British Type 23 Frigate was docked at the port in Muscat during the fourth and final leg of a Middle East tour that Charles and Camilla are taking that also incorporated Jordan, Qatar and Saudia Arabia.
Attired in his pearl grey linen suit, Charles spoke to a crew of 200 Charles and said that they were “doing a fantastic job trying to stop the pirates and drug smugglers.”
The 64-year-old prince, who is father to Prince William and father-in-law of the former Kate Middleton, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, also added, “I hope you can return home knowing you have done a useful and successful job.”
Humbly he added, “I also want to say how much, for what its worth, I admire what you do and the way you carry out your duties all over the world. To keep providing the service that you do with shrinking resources is truly remarkable.”
Charles said that he did not take things for granted, “it's remarkable what you achieve, and I hope and pray you have a safe passage home.”
In response, Lieutenant Commander Nick Bates, the ship’s flight commander, said that the crew had been looking forward to the visit from Prince Charles and that their morale was boosted.
Bates also added, “He really wants to know what's going on and has got 100% involved in what we have been doing.”
Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla also got a chance to visit the British School in Muscat, where they were greeted by some very animated children who were also painted like tigers!
While Charles was aboard the HMS Northumberland, Camilla visited the Shams Al Ma'aref School and the Omani Women's Association in Muscat.
Camilla wore another light and breezy tunic with pin-tucking detail today, aquamarine green, which she paired with ivory culottes and accessorized with a lovely matching green necklace interspersed with pearls, that matched her pearl stud earrings.
