Prince Carl Philip’s girlfriend accepts charity donation

Sofia Hellqvist, live-in girlfriend of HRH Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, had a rare public appearance this week.  Most likely in an effort to improve her public image, Miss Hellqvist was on hand for a concert at Finlandia Hall to accept a donation on behalf of her Project Playground charity.  She was dressed very professionally for the event and spoke a few words without notes as she accepted the donation.  Guests at the event commented that the Swede spoke perfect Finnish.  In part, she said:

“We hope that this day is a good start for our cooperation with Finnish companies and individuals. Together, we can take small steps towards a better world. There are many ways to help, not just financial. We can also help by opening our hearts, opening our eyes and gaining an understanding of what happens elsewhere in the world, and disseminating that information. These children need advocates.”

Miss Hellqvist has been dating the Prince for the past two years, the Swedish Royal Court confirmed in June that the couple had moved in together.  She has a past as a nude model and reality television star, which obviously didn’t sit well if she is the future spouse of the Prince.  Since their relationship has become known to the public, the Court has been working to improve her image.  Sofia’s work with Project Playground, while not the beginning of her charity work, is being publicized to hopefully move the public beyond her past.  At the event, she was asked about a possible engagement to the Prince, she declined to comment.
