Prince Andrew was strolling the gardens of Buckingham Palace, and palace security did not recognize him. According to a Sept. 8 report on BBC News, the prince was reportedly ordered to put up his hands and get on the ground. The Scotland Yard originally only confirmed that a man was approached to ascertain his identity Wednesday, but they did not confirm it was the Duke of York. They have since confirmed the incident and apologized to the Prince who has graciously accepted.
There has been some criticism of the palace security recently after an intruder was apprehended for attempted burglary within Buckingham Palace.
CNN host Piers Morgan, @Piersmorgan, a British citizen, retweeted this news on Twitter with his remark added, “Hilarious.”
There is a review being conducted after this incident which is described by Scotland Yard as not entailing the use of any force or requiring that guns be drawn.
The Duke of York had just returned from a public engagement in Piccadilly with an organization that supports new business ventures.
