Prince Alois welcomes German speaking leaders

HSH Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein hosted a meeting today of the heads of German speaking nations at Vaduz Castle.  This included Heinz Fischer of Austria, Christian Wulff of German and Micheline Calmy-Rey of Switzerland.  The topics were focused mostly on the political and economic situation in Europe, the Arab Spring, education and integration issues.  They covered the debt crisis in Europe and the request of Palestine to UN membership.  On the subject of education, all the countries represented have a form of dual vocational training system.  The Prince discussed how well the program had been working in curbing youth unemployment, and how it could be distributed internationally.  Once the meetings were done Prince Alois treated his visitors to the National Museum and a trip to Lichtenstein’s Parliament.  Hereditary Prince Alois has been acting regent of Liechtenstein since his father Prince Hans-Adam stepped aside in 2004.  Hans-Adam remains Head of State while Prince Alois manages the day-to-day operations in Liechtenstein over which the Prince is an absolute monarch with broad powers.
