For the first time since their honeymoon, TSH the Prince and Princess of Monaco have returned to the Princess’ homeland of South Africa. The Prince is there on official business as the United Nations Climate Change Conference is being held in Durban. After a day of mostly work, today the couple attended the UNEP One Billion Tree Campaign Gala. The couple looked like they could not have enjoyed the event more, laughing and smiling with each other and the other guests. As is becoming typical, the Princess brightens up when she is around children and clearly the feeling is mutual. The couple both seemed to enjoy interacting with the kids. During the event, Prince Albert paid a special tribute to 2004 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Professor Wangari Maatai, who passed away this past September. Tomorrow the Prince and Princess will meet with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Cape Town to discuss humanitarian operations in South Africa and to hopefully establish some commonality with the Princess’ future charitable efforts. Also tomorrow the couple will visit the Clock tower for a presentation of the Polaris project by the Polar International Foundation. No word on the couple’s private agenda while in the country, but it stands to reason that they will meet with Princess Charlene’s family.
