Most people think of painting when they think of primer. In order to cover dark paint or a design, you generally need to use primer before you paint with a lighter color.
So what is foundation primer? If you haven't tried it yet, do so. It is an instant skin miracle! Foundation primer, commonly called "primer" for short, does several things. It helps fill in tiny wrinkles; it evens skin tone; it smoothes the skin's surface; and it helps foundation wear better and longer.
Primer should be chosen by the desired effect you would like and according to your skin type. Many are made for all skin types; but some are oil-free or extra moisturizing. Some are made to balance yellow or red skin coloring, as well.
For a youthful glow, try a luminizing primer. It reflects light to make you look younger. A great one to try is Sally Hansen's Natural Beauty, inspired by Carmindy. It is naturally based; and it makes skin look radiant. You can even wear it over your moisturizer on "no makeup days." Unfortunately, it is no longer available in most retail stores. I found mine on Amazon.com.
There are many different primers to choose from; so I encourage you to stop by a Tucson Ulta or Sephora store to try some out! The beauty consultants will help you determine the right one for you. If you ask, you may even be able to score a sample. That way you can really give it a test run before making a purchase.
Primers are slightly pricey; but they last a long time, so they are a good investment. That said, use primer sparingly! A small amount goes a long way! Personally, I have found that primers work amazingly well with mineral foundations; especially the powdery ones. Primers help blend the minerals in and they also minimize the cakey look.
