Primary suspect in kidnapping of 10 year old Calif. girl still on the loose

On April 1, 2013, police announced they had made an arrest in the abduction of a 10 year old Northridge, Calif. girl, who was found safe a day after she vanished, but the primary suspect, Tobias Dustin Summers, is still on the loose, according to KABC 7.

Daniel Martinez, 29, was arrested on March 31 and is being held on $1 million bail.

KABC reports that police believe Summers may be in the San Diego area and has possibly tried to alter his appearance.

His red Pontiac was seized from in front of his last known address on March 30.

Summers is described as about 6-foot-tall, 160 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He has a bizarre face tattoo on his right arm.

The California girl was reported missing in the early morning hours of March 27, after her mother went to check on her and found she was gone.

Police believe she was snatched sometime between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. and was then taken to an abandoned home near a storage facility in Chatsworth. She was subsequently dropped off near a Kaiser Hospital facility in Woodland Hills.

The next day, the 10 year old walked about a mile in bare feet to a local Starbucks where someone recognized her due to the publicity surrounding her disappearance, and notified authorities.

She had bruises and cuts on her face and told police she did not know the two men who kidnapped her from her home. The girl informed authorities her abductors transported her in a black pickup truck, which was recovered by police during the search of a local moving company’s storage yard.

Both the FBI and the Los Angeles Police Dept. are involved in the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the abduction is urged to call the tip line at 213-486-6890 or 800-222-TIPS.
