Priest stuck in handcuffs calls 911

A priest in Illinois called 911 because he was stuck in a pair of handcuffs. The call, recorded Nov. 28, was released by Springfield authorities on Thursday.

Father Tom Donovan called the emergency services from his rectory while stuck in a pair of handcuffs. He said he had been playing with them and became trapped.

The call transcript reads:

Donovan: Hi there, I am stuck in a pair of handcuffs. I’m going to need help getting out before this becomes a medical emergency.

Dispatcher: What’s the problem?

Donovan: I’m stuck. In a pair. Of handcuffs.

Dispatcher: You’re stuck in a pair of handcuffs?

Donovan: Yes.

Police responded to the call and removed Father Donovan from the handcuffs. Donovan was also said to be wearing a gag when he was found, according to the Illinois Times.

Donovan has since been granted a leave of absence from his church by the diocese. The diocese nor their attorney would state where Father Donovan is currently or when he would return to the church.
