Pride is having the spirit of self-importance. While others can see the pride in a person, it is one of the hardest sins for people to see in themselves. That's because they cannot deal with who they really are. So they hide behind their pride.
A person who is filled with pride is one who uses the pronouns "I, me, and myself" very often. A person who is filled with pride constantly tells others what they have done, where they have been and what they have received. When you try to share information with them, they instantly say what they have done bigger and better. They might even go so far as to put you down in an effort to make themselves look better.
God is not pleased with the self-imposed importance a proud person applies to himself or herself. In fact, pride is what got the devil cast out of heaven (Isaiah 14:15).
Pride is a roadblock to spiritual growth and God's blessings. Pride keeps us at a distance from God. In order to please God, He commands us to be humble and He will exalt us. Therefore, it is sad to say that some people hold up their own exaltation because they try to impose it upon ourselves.
Reminder for the proud: The opposite of pride is humility.
"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he might exalt you in due time." (1 Peter 5:6)
