Anyone who’s been following the current zombie craze knows you just can’t keep the undead down. Zombies will just keep coming unless you burn them to a crisp or cut off their heads.
And once again, Seth Grahame-Smith’s breakthrough bestseller, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” is lurching towards a start date as a movie.
Panorama Media has announced that it is boarding the project, joining Darko Entertainment, Handsomecharlie Films and producer Allison Shearmur. Natalie Portman, at one point announced as the lead, is still producing.
The screenplay is by David O. Russell, who at one point was attached to direct.
Which brings us to the question of who will helm the long-gestating project. After Russell left the project, Mike White was attached. After he left the project, Craig Gillespie came on board. Gillespie is no longer attached. The team is now shopping the project to directors.
Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” which incorporated actual text from Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” with new zombie elements. The book generated enormous buzz before hitting stores, and Hollywood showed almost immediate interest. The mashup eventually sold 1.5 million copies. Grahame-Smith’s follow up novel, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” was also enormously popular, and actually made it to the big screen first.
