The opening of Michael Mina’s fabulous Bourbon Steak and Pub at Levi’s Stadium is just two short days away and reservations are already being accepted. But for those who are interested in knowing a little about the new, state-of-the-art facility and what’s on the menu from one of San Francisco’s most famous and most honored chefs, here’s a short preview.

Recently, Michael Mina led a handful of journalists including myself, on a grand tour of the facility, featuring a glimpse of the two Mina Luxury Lofts with a private dining menu, the high-end steakhouse with seating for up to 90 guests, the upscale pub area and a 13-foot tall rotating rotisserie the Michelin-starred chef described as the only one in the country capable of cooking a whole cow.

A proud supporter of the San Francisco 49ers and a season ticket holder for 23 years, Michael Mina was incredibly gracious and quite personable throughout the entire presentation. In fact he had such an easy-going demeanor that if he wore a Niners jersey, he’d seem just like one of the guys at a typical tailgate party. When asked about his plans for Bourbon Steak and Pub on Thanksgiving, with the 49ers hosting division rival and defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, he assured everyone in our group he’ll have something very special for dining at what many consider the game of the year at Levi’s Stadium.

It was his popular tailgate parties he hosted for years at Candlestick and team allegiance that likely prompted 49ers CEO Jed York and Paraag Marathe, 49ers team president to contact Mina about opening up a restaurant at the new Levi’s Stadium. For someone who’s supported the San Francisco 49ers for decades, it seemed like the perfect match – a chance to host an upscale restaurant at the stadium where his favorite football team calls home. And now, his latest restaurant and certain to be one of the most popular among his collection of more than 20, is just days from opening.

After the thoroughly entertaining tour, we were treated to a number of incredibly delicious dishes from both the pub and restaurant menus. But before this long line of intricate creations, we were treated with two beer flights ($20) from Carlo Splendorini, the immensely talented corporate bar director for the Mina Group. Moments later, the first treat to come out was an unbelievable nachos snack ($14) filled with borracho beans, charred corn salsa topped with a sunny side egg. Next up was a mouthwatering Maine lobster fritters with bib lettuce and aji Amarillo dip ($16), followed by another Mina specialty – deviled eggs with Dungeness crab, cioppino mayo and old bay crumbs ($11). Other unique dishes followed, such as the Gold Rush Waygu Beef Burge ($24) and Smokin’ Double Barrel Wagyu Dog ($18) from the pub menu and some of the finest steak dishes cooked on a wood-fired grill, such as true A5 Kagoshima rib eye ($34 per oz.) and American Wagyu Tajima skirt steak ($74 – 10 oz.).

The grand finale of this seemingly incomparable media tasting was a sizable number of tantalizing desserts, with two I especially cherished – lemon cheesecake with almond sponge, spicy streusel crumble, blackberry meringue and micro mint and Michael Mina’s signature root beer float, clearly the best I've ever experienced, with chocolate chip and pecan cookies and sassafrass ice cream. All in all, it was a truly remarkable evening and not surprisingly from a staff led by a Michelin-starred and James Beard award-winning chef, every single dish was an absolute delight.

Located near Toyota Gate F, in the northeast section of Levi’s Stadium, Bourbon Steak and Pub is part of a 14,490 square foot facility that also includes Michael Mina’s Tailgate. The facility also boasts a state-of-the-art sound system, 81 Sony HD TVs, a Yahoo! Fantasy Football ticker and access to all major sports packages, such as NFL Sunday Ticket, MLB Network, NBA TV and Pay Per View events.

Bourbon Steak and Pub will be open year round, with Bourbon Steak serving dinner from 5:30 p.m. and the pub open to for lunch and dinner and open to the public except for 49ers home games. While the facility is a member-only club for Levi's Stadium seat holders on home games, Michael Mina's Tailgate will be open to the public after all games.
