Germs usage of the 5 Second Rue!
With the flu season quickly approaching and more people getting sick each year it is a good idea to teach children about good hygiene.
Covering your mouth when you cough is one of the best habits for children to be taught. When you cover your cough your keeping all of your germs from spreading out into the air and possibly from other people catching them. Recently there has been a debate on which is more sanitary, to cough/sneeze into your hands or on your upper arm. They say sneezing into your upper arm keeps your hands clean, but what about your shirt and your arm, and wouldn't you be breathing all your germs back in considering it is so close to your face. On the other hand, coughing/sneezing into your hands is good because you can wash your hands and get rid of those germs. I guess it is just a personal preference!
It is also good to wash your hands frequently, this includes before you eat and after you handle anything. It is also essential for everyone to wash their hands before handling newborns, infants, and children because they tend to put their hands in their mouth. Encourage the use of hand sanitizer that has a moisturizer in it, like Susan Brown's Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer. One of the worst acts for children to do is share food and/or drinks with anyone else. This is the BIGGEST transfer of germs from one person to the other. Every parent should teach their children not to put foreign object, including fingers in their mouth. Chewing on objects that do not belong in your mouth (pencils, coke bottle tops, pen caps, etc) have thousands of germs on them. Stop and think, where did that pencil come from? Did you drop your pen on the floor? The cooler stocker at the store where you bought your coke from wash his hands before placing your coke on that shelf? Keeping these key points in mind will help prevent your children from getting sick and in return keep money in your pocket!
