The 2014 Teen Choice Awards were held this Sunday evening at the Shrine Auditorium in Downtown Los Angeles. After a venue change from UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion because of a flood nearby. The blue carpet was so crowded with press, celebrities and a few lucky fans who were able to get close enough to take a selfie with Taylor Swift or Kendall Jenner, that the Fire Marshall was tempted to shut it down. The show got underway with a strong start from teen superstar Demi Lovato. Lovato and Cher Lloyd opened the show with their smash hit “I Really Don’t Care.” The song took home a TCA for Choice Summer Song.

It was a big night in the Television categories for ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars.” The show, now in its fifth season, took home awards for Choice Summer TV Star Male for Tyler Blackburn; Choice TV Female Breakout Star for Sasha Pieterse; Choice Summer TV Female Star for Ashley Benson; Choice TV Actor Drama for Ian Harding; Choice TV Show Drama and Choice TV Actress Drama for Lucy Hale.

A very humbled Hale took time to thank her co-stars as she accepted the surfboard trophy for her role as Aria Montgomery. The girls have been with her for the last five years on this ride with her and also thanked co-star Ian Harding for being a good kisser, joking that her job is to kiss him every day. Backstage, Hale admitted that she was a fan of “Orange is the New Black.” “Netflix,” Hale said when asked about which TV shows she watched. “We all just finished “Orange is the New Black. That’s what we do when we are filming… watching other TV shows when we’re filming a TV show.” On the show’s strong teen following and any advice she gives to the show’s female viewers, Hale had sound advice. “I think just to have a strong sense of self. Have a true reflection of who you are.”

Other artists who attended the show were Laura and Vanessa Marano, Ian Somerhalder, Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Lea Michele, Jake T. Austin, Keegan Allen, Bella Thorne and Zendaya to name a few.

R&B/Pop singer Jason Derulo, who took home the surfboard for Choice Summer Music Star, closed out the night with a medley of his current hits, including “Talk Dirty to Me” and “Wiggle.”
