'Pretty Little Liars' spoilers: Ezra's fate season 5

The season four finale of the ABC Family drama "Pretty Little Liars" left lives hanging in the balance, but at least one character will be returning next season. On Tuesday, March 18 Wetpaint Entertainment posted an interview with Ian Harding, who plays Ezra Fitz on the series, about the fate of his character.

In the season finale, Ezra gets shot on a rooftop trying to save Aria and her friends, and the wound looked serious. However, Harding has revealed that he has "signed a contract for a fifth season" although he isn't sure "in what capacity he will be back." The season five premiere is expected to feature some paramedics and at least two surgeries so there is a possibility Ezra lives.

Executive producer Oliver Goldstick revealed that "Ezra will definitely be back" in the fifth season, but that can mean he fully recovers and continues to pursue Aria or he is back simply to die from his injuries in the first episode. The character could also be returning in flashbacks, much like Allison's character did for the first few seasons, or in another capacity.

"Pretty Little Liars" will return with a fifth season on Tuesday, June 10 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family. Harding himself is unsure of his character's fate, although if Ezra lives he doesn't believe Aria will completely forgive him. Ezra's final scene in the episode was also much more violent, with Ezra physically fighting back, but the scenes were cut for time.
