"Pretty Little Liars" season 4 aired its summer finale, "Now You See Me, Now You Don't," on Tuesday, Aug. 27, and going into it, we knew there was going to be a big shocking moment. Well, we weren't disappointed.
"A" lured the "Pretty Little Liars" to the very creepy town of Ravenswood, and while the girls were distracted with Aria part of the magic show, Emily was taken and chained into a box and put on a conveyer belt on her way to being sawed in half, her own magic trick without the trick and without an audience. The girls were able to free her, thanks to one Red Coat—yes, there was more than one—stopping the conveyer belt, but after that, it was a chase for some answers.
Aria chased one Red Coat up on to a cat walk, and it was during their fight that she discovered this one was CeCe, who ended up falling to her (presumed) death when Aria couldn't hold on. However, while the girls were in shock, CeCe's hand twitched on the ground (and if you didn't see that one coming, you haven't been watching this show long enough) and she escaped. Meanwhile, Spencer had followed the other Red Coat, and she was sure this was Alison, as she discovered "A's" lair—and man, had "A" been busy. "A" had a complete timeline for each girl on boards, computers set up password-locked (which was what got Caleb on a bus because there was really only so much he could do on the phone and he had to get to Ravenswood somehow), and a dresser filled with…men's clothes? But was it Wren?
Wren may have been a popular theory, but instead, what we saw as the audience was a shocker that was bigger than the Toby reveal had been. Ezra was "A," and he was pissed when he got to his lair as the episode ended. Doesn't that change how you feel about that sweet Ezra/Aria kiss from earlier in the episode during the nice couples montage? Also, we can't help but wonder how much Rosewood High pays Ezra to be a teacher considering how much "A" seems to be able to afford to send the girls' ways. What about those "money problems" Ezra had? Where is the "A" team getting all that money? From "A" Incorporation or whatever it is "A" seems to have set up? Apparently being part of the "A" team is a profitable.
That wasn't the only big reveal of the summer finale. We also learned that Alison is alive. As Mrs. Grunwald told the girls, she found Alison as she reached her hand out of the ground, and Alison disappeared when she took her to the hospital. Alison was running scared, and the girls had to find her before "A" did.
"Pretty Little Liars" returns to ABC Family for the big Halloween special in October. Were you shocked by the big reveal that Ezra is "A"?
