"Pretty Little Liars" returns with new episodes on ABC Family this month, and on Wednesday, Jan. 2, ABC Family released photos from episode 316, "Misery Loves Company," and if you've been wary about what's going on between Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Toby (Keegan Allen) since finding out Toby's on the "A" team, well, there's even more reason to be concerned.
In the "Misery Loves Company" episode of "Pretty Little Liars" season 3, the girls aren't going to be on the top of their game with Aria (Lucy Hale) under Meredith's (Amanda Schull) care while she's sidelined with the flu—but Meredith may have ulterior motives to looking after Aria. With that possibility, Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) will turn away from a new clue to focus on figuring out what Meredith is exactly up to. Then there's Spencer, who's going to have a surprise for Toby for their anniversary.
The photos, which you can see in the slideshow at the top of this article, offer a look at the episode and behind-the-scenes filming it, with Marlene King directing her first episode. As the photos show, Spencer and Toby seem happy in their relationship, but given what we know about him, that's not likely to last very long. In fact, when we spoke to King during a conference call about what's coming up, she previewed that "there's a lot of just deep, deep emotion that begins with that episode and then it just carries all throughout the rest of the season. It's just so powerful and so gut-wrenching and Troian Bellisario did such an amazing job for us this year."
