According to the Canadian Olympic Committee in a press release on Sunday, Canadian Olympic ski jumper Alexandra Pretorius of Calgary has had to pull out of participating from the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi because of an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Pretorius originally suffered her anterior cruciate ligament while training in Whistler, British Columbia last summer. She underwent surgery and was on target to compete for Canada this month, but unfortunately suffered a setback to her rehabilitation.
This will be the first time that women's ski jumping is on the Olympic agenda. The Canadian women's team will be represented by Atsuko Tanaka and Taylor Henrich who are also each from Calgary.
The women's ski jumping competition will take place at 10:30 a.m. on February 11. Last year Pretorius finished in 26th place in the world rankings. Her best career result was a tenth place finish at a World Cup event in Hinterzarten, Germany on January 12, 2013.
