FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
International Women’s Day ~ March 8th, 2014
Are you ready to celebrate the 103rd year old anniversary of a holiday tradition honoring women of diversity around the world here in Columbus, Ohio?
You are invited to join in celebrating the women of your community, honoring their business achievements, empowering families and enjoying international music, art and cuisine. The festivities will be held on March 5th & 8th, 2014 at Monaco’s Palace located at 4555 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, 43231. Expect a wonderful day of awards, fashion, art, music, food and fun organized by Purpose for Women International, a non-profit committed to uplifting individuals on a local, national and international level. The International Recognition Awards dinner (March 5th) will commence at 6:00pm with a $49 per plate catered menu where we will honor the women of Ohio who were nominated and voted by their peers to receive an award in several categories. Such categories include International Woman in media, art, community action and cuisine among others. The public International Women’s Day Charity celebration on March 8th, 2014 starts at 10am-6pm and is FREE to the public with raffle proceeds going to www.PurposeforWomenInternational.org. We will be raising funds and awareness for Purpose for Women International, an organization focused on providing access to resources for women, families, children and the community for the purpose of affecting change on a local, national and international level.
Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win fun prizes. This is an event to promote International Women’s Day and all donations will help support our charity fund of Purpose for Women International and other worthwhile causes.
Originally inspired by the women of the U.S., German Socialist Lusie Zietz proposed an establishment of an annual event and, with the seconded support of communist Clara Zetkin, International Women’s Day was born. We will be celebrating IWD 100 years to the date from its original declaration by agreement on March 8th 1913 in Denmark as part of the WWI Peace campaigns. Countries around the globe have been honoring their Mothers, Daughters and Women of their cities by surrounding them with attention and love, giving flowers, candy, and other gifts. Due to its timing, this day has always been associated with the Beginning of Spring and celebration of new beginnings. The United Nations - a strong supporter of the International Women’s Day - focuses their emphasis on political and human rights themed events for social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide for equality and expression of hope and empowerment for all.
Join us Wednesday March 5th and 8th in central Columbus, Ohio at Monaco’s Palace for a fun, educational, pampered filled day where women celebrate being a woman and each other. Key note speaker Rowena Gonzales Siglos shares her story of triumph at our March 5th IWD Recognition Awards dinner. Join Senator Charleta Travares, Valerie Douglas, Heather L. Tapia has highlighted speakers on March 8th for their discussions on women’s empowerment. Consider this your Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day celebration in one as we offer vendors in fashion, art, community action, family resources, food and more. This is part of a local campaign to support women of the community and a call to action for other cities nationally to stand up and claim their divine femininity and enjoy this special day with the hopes of gaining congressional attention to declare International Women’s Day a nationally recognized holiday.
