BANGOR--- For the second straight year the Presque Isle Wildcats defeated the Nokomis Warriors in the Class B Eastern Maine girls championship game.
Megan Ireland and Chandler Guerrette combined for 34 points to lead the Wildcats to a 66-51 victory over the Warriors.
Ireland finished with nine 3-pointers made in the tournament. Megan Cressler from Camden-Rockport holds the regional tournament record for three pointers made in a class B girls Eastern Maine tourney with 10 in 2000.
Meredith Stewart hit a layup with 5:32 remaining in the first quarter. That gave the Wildcats a lead they would hold the rest of the way.
Nokomis cut the lead to one on two different occasions in the first half. Presque Isle went on a 14-1 run to end the second quarter and take a comfortable 35-21 lead going into the half.
Anna Mackenzie had nine points on 4-4 Field goal shooting in the first quarter. Mackenzie did not attempt a shot in the second quarter.
Presque Isle started the second half on a 10-4 run to take a commanding 45-25 with under three minutes left in the third quarter.
Nokomis cut the Wildcats lead to 10 early in the fourth quarter.
Ireland and Bernier each hit a three pointer to spark a 8-0 run and give Presque Isle a 58-40 lead with 5:23 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Ireland scored a game high 18 points to lead the Wildcats. She shot 4-9 from three point range. Guerrette recorded 16 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals.
Hannah Graham recorded 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Karlee Bernier added nine points on 3-8 from three point range.
The Wildcats went 12-12 from the free throw line.
Presque Isle (21-0) will take on Lake Region in the class B state championship game at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland Friday, March 1st at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats defeated Lake Region 49-47 in the 2012 state game.
Mackenzie led the Warriors with 14 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Kelsie Richards added 13 points and six rebounds.Mikalya Charters and Taylor Shaw finished with seven points each.
Nokomis finishes the season with a record of 18-3.
