PRESQUE ISLE--- The Presque Isle boys tennis team fell to MDI in the class B quarterfinals last season.
This year, the Wildcats are hoping to compete with MDI and the rest of the strong teams in Eastern Maine.
"Five of the seven players (on the roster) saw considerable match time last season, which should translate into the upperclassmen heavy Wildcats clawing their way to among the elite in class B PVC, "Presque Isle coach Brian Massey said. "Along with the experience, the blue and white Cats are going to rely heavily on a strong conditioning workout to help endure what could be long matches of equally matched opponents. Some much needed size and athleticism on the doubles teams will also add to the bulk of the Wildcat advantages going into this season."
The Wildcats are scheduled to open the regular season on April 19th when they travel to Ellsworth. Getting outside before that date could be a challenge with the Presque Isle area still being snow covered. Click here for the full schedule.
"With only seven players, the Cats will need to work hard to stay healthy and academically strong for the season,"Massey said. "The Cats, along with their fellow County teams, will have to remain patient for the snow to melt; causing a slight delay in an outside regiment."
Liam Hughes will lead the Wildcats on the court. Hughes was the number one seed regionally last season. Mike Michaud and Chris Carroll will compete for one of the singles spots. Andrew Dyer, Byron Winslow, Tyler Ayotte, and Danny Young round out the Wildcats roster.
