PORTLAND---- The class B state championship games will be held Friday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
The night will start at 7 p.m. with a rematch of the 2012 girls state title game between the Presque Isle Wildcats and Lake Region Lakers.
Meredith Stewart hit the go ahead basket to lead Presque Isle to a 49-47 over Lake Region as they claimed the 2012 state championship.
The Wildcats have outscored their opponents by an average of 37.1 (71.6 to 34.5) points per game this season.
Presque Isle (21-0) defeated Ellsworth 75-26 in the quarterfinals, MDI 62-48 in the semifinals and Nokomis 66-51 in the regional final.
The Wildcats are led by seniors Chandler Guerrette, Megan Ireland, Karlee Bernier and Stewart.
Sophomores Hannah Graham and Krystal Kingsbury are both huge threats on both ends of the floor for coach Jeff Hudson's squad.
Graham starts and is a threat from anywhere on the floor. Kingsbury is one of the first off the bench.
This is the fifth trip to the state championship game in the last eight years for the Lakers. Lake Region lost to Presque Isle in 2006. The Lakers fell to Waterville in 2007 and 2008.
Junior Tiana-Jo Carter powers the Lake Region inside game. Carter scored 17 points against Presque Isle in last years state game.
Sydney and Sarah Hancock provide a spark in the backcourt for the Lakers. Kelsey Winslow is a solid inside player and provides senior leadership along with Sydney Hancock
Lake Region (19-2) had wins over Freeport, Greely and York in regional tourney play.
Medomak Valley (19-2) will face Falmouth (20-1) in the boys class B state game at 8:45 p.m.
