Presidents' Day, also known as Washington's Birthday, is observed today, Feb. 17, 2014, and is a day that honors all presidents of the United States. Many businesses and offices are closed today as reported by The Epoch Times on Monday, Feb. 17, including federal and state offices. The post office and most banks are closed on Presidents' Day, however some businesses and banks are open, so it's not surprising that this is a confusing holiday for many.

Since many government offices are closed Monday, Americans are wondering what else is closed. Although Presidents' Day is a federal holiday, there's a surprising number of businesses open on Monday, Feb. 17. For example, state and district courts are open, while federal courts are closed.

What's Open, What's Closed On Presidents' Day

Federal government offices, municipal and state offices are closed on Presidents' Day.

The New York Stock Exchange is closed in accordance with the holiday.

Almost all Rhode Island schools will be closed on Presidents' Day with some exceptions. Some day care facilities, private schools, and after school programs may be open. It would be wise to check local listings first. Depending on your location, some libraries are open, but check local hours.

Are Banks Open on Presidents' Day?

Most banks are closed on Presidents' Day depending on the branch. Some supermarket kiosks may be open, as are all ATM machines. Good news for TD Bank, Wells Fargo and Chase customers! These banks are open on Presidents' Day, as well as supermarket and in-store branches of PNC Bank and SunTrust Bank. The U.S. Post Office is Closed on Presidents' Day

USPS Mail Delivery - According to the USPS, there is no United States mail delivery on Presidents' Day, Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. Presidents' Day is a U.S. Postal Holiday, and all U.S Post Offices in Rhode Island are closed for business. Package Delivery Services - UPS is open on Presidents' Day, Monday, Feb. 17. Federal Express is also open on Presidents' Day, as well as other smaller delivery companies, but check first just to be sure.

Is Walmart, Target, Kmart and Best Buy Open Presidents' Day?

Yes they are! Most businesses and retail stores are open Presidents' Day with normal business hours and look forward to huge Presidents' Day sales. Walmart, Target, Kmart and Best Buy stores are looking forward to you dropping bucket loads of money with them, as are pharmacies like CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens.

Supermarkets and liquor stores are also open, although some may operate on a Sunday schedule. Factory outlets, car dealers, appliance stores, etc, all have great sales this holiday weekend. In many cases, these businesses started gearing up the Friday before the holiday to take advantage of a four day weekend, which in some areas are reported to extending their sales for a week or two.
