President Obama speaks at University of Michigan about raising minimum wage

U.S. President Barack Obama spoke this afternoon at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in front of an audience of students, invited guests, and the media, and addressed the topic of the federal minimum wage, which he favors raising from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour. It was the third time the president has visited the university while in office.

Mr. Obama spoke at the Intramural Sports Building on the school's main campus, and called the wage boost a "no-brainer" and said "...no one who's working full time should be raising their family in poverty" according to a story posted to CNN.com. Many news organizations were on hand to cover the speech, including MLive.com, which had a live blog and numerous photos.

Despite the president's enthusiasm, and that of fellow Democrats, for raising the minimum wage, Republicans do not share that feeling, according to a story published today in the Washington Post.

It was also reported that Mr. Obama stopped by Zingerman's Delicatessen, an Ann Arbor landmark and a business the same CNN article cites as one that already pays its workers more than the state of Michigan's minimum wage of $7.40 per hour.
