Malia Obama, 13, is like any other tween/teenager. She is embarrassed easily, and doesn't think her parents are "cool." (Daisy Dumas, www.dailymail.co.uk). Of course, there is one slight difference that distinguishes the Obama girls, Malia, and her 8 year old sister, Sasha from the rest of the girls: their father is the President of the United States.
Flotus (First Lady of the United States) Michelle Obama says her daughters hate when their parents come to school. Why? There is always a motorcade accompanying them. The girls hate seeing all those cars when there is a teacher conference or other event in their school.
Malia now has a cell phone so she can fit in with the other kids. The First Lady hopes that will expand Malia's social life when boys come into the picture. However, for security reasons, Malia's phone contacts are limited and monitored.
The Obama girls prefer to go out to the movies than to watch them in the Whitehouse screening room. They just want to be like other kids, but other kids don't have a President for a father. Just like other tweens, Malia is embarrassed by her mother's dancing and singing. Looks like she'll have to get used to it. Michelle Obama will be appearing as a guest on iCarly (Nickelodeon), saluting servicemen. Most tweens love Nickelodeon, so at least she will be on a show that is popular with Malia's friends. Nickelodeon (www.nickelodeon.com) seems to address tweens' problems in a funny, entertaining way.
Nickelodeon films is right in Los Angeles on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, and they sometimes use local tweens and teens in their episodes for "Victorious" or "iCarly." Being an extra is a fun way for local kids to gain some confidence being on camera. They have to get work permits, get an agent, and bring at least three hours of school work along. There they will have a Studio Teacher who will help with their work and watch out for their welfare.
Malia Obama would not be an extra on Nickelodeon, but like her mother, she could have a cameo if she so desired. I think most girls would trade their privacy to be in the Whitehouse, don't you?
