President Obama took the oath of office today in a swearing-in ceremony at the White House today just before noon. Chief Justice John Roberts swore in the president for a second term.
In a smaller scale ceremony with his wife, daughters and close family, the president vowed to support and defend the constitution. Vice President Joe Biden also swore in earlier in the morning.
Tomorrow, he will repeat the swearing in on a much larger scale. He will do so in front of nearly 800,000 people on the west front of the capitol.
Before the ceremony, Obama and Vice President Joe Biden honored the nation’s fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. They placed a wreath in front of Arlington’s Tomb of the Unknowns while a bugler played “Taps.”
While campaigning for his second term, Obama and Biden made frequent stops through battleground state Ohio. President Obama received heavy support from Cincinnati’s Mayor Mark Mallory and Cincinnati voters, which played a significant role in the Obama’s reelection.
