If there was ever a ‘chrystal’ clear instance of disobeying a direct order and insubordination, General Stanley McChrystal’s comments directly – not indirectly – mocking Vice President Joe Biden and others to whom he directly reports are the best example possible.
McChrystal somehow felt it was okay to publicly and not-so-privately mock those to whom he reports. Aside from the obvious violations of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, how stupid is that? But now, McChrystal has made his bed and he must sleep it. President Obama, as Commander-in-Chief, now must do what he was elected to do, and that means, in no uncertain terms, that he must get rid of anyone of his underlings who do not understand or respect his authority.
I can’t say this any more emphatically: President Obama MUST fire General McChrystal. The president must take charge and show the troops who is calling the shots. Should the president fail at this extremely elementary and fundamental task of being Commander-in-Chief, he will have seriously compromised his position for himself and for other future presidents.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a matter of ‘let’s weigh the facts’ and go easy on the guy after decades of service. Clear and simple, McChrystal must be fired. There are few things that are black and white in this world, but this is one of them.
Of course, my fear is that Obama does not understand this simple element of being in charge. I just get so tired of him trying to be friends with everyone. Please, Mr. President, we did not elect you to make friends. We elected you to get the job done and use your authority to impact the mission at hand. You wouldn’t think twice about firing a law clerk who spoke to the press about your staff. Why are you even thinking of treating this idiot McChrystal any differently? Trust me, Stanley will not be missed, and his firing will have a positive effect on the rest of the military: shut up and do your job.
I wonder sometimes: When is President Obama going to realize that these people are out to get him? McChrystal practically admitted to Rolling Stone that he did not like his new boss. The world today is nothing short of a kill-or-be-killed world when it comes to the national and international stage.
When will President Obama learn that he is the political equivalent of ‘Hamlet’ and not ‘Glee’?
