Same-sex marriage is a controversial subject in the United States. Now President Obama is finally voicing his opinion on this matter. On March 1, Huffington Post reported that he does not think California's Proposition 8 is constitutional. Does this shock you and do you agree?
President Obama says that our nation was created on the rights of everyone being created equal and we are not doing that with these laws that do not allow same-sex marriage. He actually favors the right for same-sex marriage in all states.
Later this month the Supreme Court will hear the case of Hollingsworth v. Perry. This case is about the discrimination against gay marriage.
Obama says he would rule against all gay marriage bans if it was entirely up to him. He says they have to decide if there is good reason to oppose it. There are 38 states that have laws opposing gay marriage.
Are you shocked to hear that President Obama is for same-sex marriage? Sound off in the comments.
