Yesterday, while exercising in the local health club, I ran into two gentlemen who ordinarily don't reveal their deepest personal beliefs. Somehow or other, these basically decent fellows stumbled upon the subject of 'religious evil.' The first gentleman, a self proclaimed 'pagan,' obliterated (or so he thinks) the existence of God through his view of all religions as promoters of evil. The second gentleman, a self professed American, though what I am about to reveal about him might make this claim suspect, honed his disdain for theism specifically against the Catholic Church, claiming, as a former citizen of the U.S.S.R. (the former Communist Soviet Union--yes, he is old enough!), that all the atrocities in the former Communist-atheist nation were caused by the Vatican!

Not trying to pick a fight with two guys I normally get along with (though, people who know me might think otherwise!), my first question was for the pagan: How can you obliterate religion in the name of evil, claiming religion false due to evil, when religion has done equal, if not more, good for the world? How can you say religion in Crusades and Inquisition (though even an honest and educated reading of these historic events reveal wildly secular exaggerations!) prove the nonexistence of God?
Blanket amnesty for atheism under the guise that religion solely produces evil is crushed by all the people educated, clothed, fed, and liberated from atheistic-totalitarian regimes--inspired by the good faith of religious people.

To my second friend, a rational inquiry into the happenings of the Soviet Union will reveal no secret conspiracy by the Vatican. The actions of the Vatican against the oppression of Communist Russia were constantly overt, evangelical, and faithful to the teachings of the gospel. My mixed up Russian friend, mixed up by too much KGB propaganda, must realize that his non-belief in 'theism' is not caused by Catholicism, but by the lies and distortions of a purely secular and evil human philosophy.

Did I win an argument? No. Did I plant a seed for growth? God only knows. But this little, seemingly innocuous, conversation has enormous ramifications for our society. How so? Our nation, today, has an abundant group of prophets expounding a new (not really, all lies are recycled--just bone up on history!) human philosophy at odds with religion in general, and Catholicism in particular. It blames religion, particularly Roman Catholicism, for much evil such as violations of women's reproductive rights (i.e., Pro Life stance against abortion, contraception) and violations of gay rights (not allowing gay marriage). Secular humanism hides under the guise of tolerance for all faiths, scientific advances, and good old American liberty and justice.

But this is such a lie! Like Stalin and Hitler, it utilizes class warfare to promote millions of deaths in abortions, hundreds of deaths in euthanasia, tons of injustices in religious persecution (HHS style), and social blasphemy in gay 'marriages,' while remaining compassionate to gay human persons.
It is time we seriously conversed with the new philosophers before they destroy our nation!
