Quite unbelievably, the tenth president of the United States, President John Tyler who was born in 1790, still has two grandsons who are living. The oldest is Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Jr., 87, and the younger one is Harrison Ruffin Tyler, 83 years old.
The New York Times magazine caught up with the younger grandson for an interview. It turns out that President Tyler’s grandson Harrison is quite outspoken and quite displeased with the presidential choices in 2012. While he thinks President Barack Obama is a charming man, he doesn’t think he’s doing well for businesses in the United States and not doing well by Americans in general for taking so much away from the rich and giving it to the poor. Therefore, he wouldn’t ever vote for him. And as far as the GOP candidates are concerned, though he’s conservative himself, he doesn’t care of any of the candidates right now. In particularly, he told the interviewer that he thinks Newt Gingrich is ‘a jerk’ for having had three wives. He thinks that’s just awful. He said he plans on voting in the 2012 election.
Harrison Tyler says he wasn’t interested in politics and the history of his famous grandfather until he retired. Now, he’s taking time to listen in on the topic of politics and has taken time to research his presidential grandfather.
President John Tyler was born on March 29, 1790 and became the first president who got the job because the president he was serving died in office. President William Henry Harrison died after just 30 days in office, and Tyler succeeded him in 1841. President Tyler is also the first president who married while being the president. He married his second wife, after his first wife died, while he was in the White House. His son Lyon Gardiner Tyler, one of President Tyler's 15 children, was born in 1853 and was the father of the two grandsons who are alive.
