The men of Phi Beta Sigma are hosting their National Conclave this week in New Orleans, Louisiana.
According to sources in New Orleans yesterday the men of this brotherhood voted on several members to be inducted into the fraternity at a later date.
One of those men is former President Bill Clinton and the other is Rev. Al Sharpton.
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity has not confirmed this information as of yet but sources in New Orleans who wish to remain anonymous have confirmed that this order of business has been voted on and both men will be inducted later this year.
Similarly last year it was said that Michelle Obama would be initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, the country's first and oldest black greek lettered sorority. No official word was ever made public as to wether or not First Lady Michelle Obama ever became a member of the organization.
If Bill Clinton is inducted into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. he will be the first former President of the United States to become a member of a historically black greek lettered organization. Congratulations to former President Bill Clinton and the brotherhood of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., January 9, 1914, by three young African-American male students. The founders, Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and Honorable Charles I. Brown, wanted to organize a Greek letter fraternity that would truly exemplify the ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service.

It has been confirmed that former President Bill Clinton, activist Rev. Al Sharpton and iconic entertainer Stevie Wonder have all been approved by the members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc to be inducted as honorary members of this illustrious fraternity.

Former President Clinton made the Decision that was best for him, joined a frat that already has other former presidents of other countries (Nkrumah, Tubman, Mandala). Its fine though we willjust continue to do what we have been doing for the past 95 years...

Phi Beta Sigma does not need anything to shine. Their greatness is very easy to find if you would stop this cycle of the Uneducated Negro and read a book. The Sigma’s are the only organization that is recognized as the caretaker of all beasts, “a man”. Just as God made man. If you want to life a fantasy life go be a dog, an Ape, a rabbit, an Elephant, a frog, a duck, a cat, a centaur. Everyone is afraid to do the right thing in life so they jump on the band wagon of what seems hot. Did you get an iphone or something 3G lately? I love it how the ladies are the first to jump up and say what any man should be; do you really know what goes on in the society of fraternity life or are you just window shopping what you think a fraternity man is? We all joined out orgs for good reasons (I Hope) but we all still (well at least most of us) still have one thing in common, we're black! Its saddening to my that my illustrious fraternaty has to keep taking in these people as "Honorary" members. We need to quit seeking & recruiting these people just b/c they have a name. If they really wanted to join then let them approach us, join a grad chapter just as everyone else. Idk about you all but i pledged & i find it almost a slap in the face to just keep adding people b/c they have a name just for some publicity. It really needs to stop. I wish we could do away with "Honorary" members all together. I know many dont know this but Al Sharpton attempted to become a member of Kappa Alpha Psi about 4 years ago, but they do not do "Honorary" members so it never happened. Unimpressed Sigma - Phi beta Sigma does not recruit at that level, I take it you have never been to conclave. If Sigma recruited DMX would of been a Sigma in Charlotte, in 2007.
People have the right to do whatever it is they want to do, to be better themselves, their community and their organizations. Some of these comments are just wack. I mean what is the point of really putting something someone else is so proud of down? I just think the whole honorary thing is whack anyways. Why would you give someone letters who didn't earn them the same way everyone else did. Do you really think Bill Clinton or Al Sharpton cares about be a Sigma? To them it will be just another award that someone gave them.
I think that a man or woman should join any organization that best fit them and not be judge. Everyone should research the organization of their choice prior to seeking membership to make sure that's the organization he or she wants to join. All black greek letter organizations are centered around the same goal/focus and that is SERVICE. Therefore, it doesn't matter which one you join as long as you are carrying out the principles of that organization. Congrats Bill Clinton!!

Do you even have to be enrolled in a 4 year institution to be a Sigma? I know some Sigmas who only went to community college, and some that were just random men at large within the community with no post high school education.

This is great news! When are we, as BGLO members (no offense to the Ques but it's the best word here) going to stop tearing each other down? All this hate going back and forth in a public forum is not a good look! And then people want to get angry when we are disrespected by people not in our organizations! I will admit some initial confusion because I had heard a while ago that Bill Clinton was pursuing Omega Psi Phi, but if he has taken it upon himself to want to join Phi Beta Sigma, we should all be happy, because as much as some do not want to admit it, the way one organization is viewed reflects all of us! We have ALL affected history, and we could continue to do so if everyone wasn't so blinded by their own letters that they can't be happy for people who have different ones. Let's hope that these men do make it in, whether or not you agree with honorary status, and keep working for our orgs! :)
