President Barack Obama wants to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour

People who are working for lower wages might get some relief from President Barack Obama. The president wants to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour by the year 2016. Florida just raised the state minimum wage to $7.93 an hour, according to an article by William Gibson in the January 14 Sun Sentinel.

People have different views on the minimum wage. Some believe that a high minimum wage makes it hard for less experienced workers to find and keep jobs. Others believe that a minimum wage ensures fair treatment for working people.

"I don't think there should be a minimum wage. I think people should be paid what an employer thinks they are worth and no more," said Paul Gonzalez.

"I think the minimum wage should be higher. I think many people work hard and don't receive just compensation," said Jennifer Ochoa.
