President Barack Obama wants a federal minium wage of $10.10

President Barack Obama gave his State of the Union Address on January 28. He asked employers to give their workers a pay raise and said he wanted a federal minimum wage of $10.10 an hour. He also said he wanted federal contractors to pay their workers a minimum of $10.10 an hour. President Obama said he wanted to eliminate pay inequality between men and women. He said that throughout the nation, women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn.

President Obama also said he wants men and women to have more time off to care for children and elderly parents. He wants to see more college education programs that will better prepare young people for the workforce. President Obama believes community colleges could play a very strong role in preparing people for jobs that currently exist and are not being filled. He wants to see more efforts being made to prepare people for jobs and to help match up employers and people eager to work.

The economy is beginning to improve and more people are finding jobs. This is good news for many people who have struggled during the recession.
