According to a June 4 article published by WTVQ.com. President Barack Obama signed a bill into law that will protect anglers' rights to fish in the tailwater below the dams on the Cumberland River in Kentucky and Tennessee.
WTVQ.com reports that the Army Corps of Engineers wanted to erect barriers to prevent anglers from fishing the tailwater, but state officials said the barriers would hurt tourism.
The federal government has now enacted a two-year moratorium called the “Freedom to Fish Act.” The bill bans anyone from putting any type of barriers up that would restrict fishing on the Cumberland River tailwater. There is also a bill proposing the permanent ban on barriers currently pending in the House.
The Cumberland River tailwater runs for 75 miles below Lake Cumberland. According to Fw.ky.gov, Cumberland River tailwater is said to the home of the brown trout that weighed in at 21-pounds, as well as the 14-pound, 6-ounce rainbow trout.
