President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address affects preschoolers

Last night, President Barack Obama gave his first State of the Union Address for his second term in office. This State of the Union address took place in the House Chamber in Washington, DC and was viewed on national network television beginning at 9 pm EST.
Similar to prior State of the Union addresses, President Obama wants “high quality preschool available for every child in America.” Obama said that for every dollar we spend on preschool, we save $7.00, according to statistics. Obama gave an example of how this could be when he noted that the crime rate would go down if the country continues to invest in high quality preschool.
Obama used his preschool example to lead into the challenge of preparing students for the workforce. This would include immigration reform, which would require “people to learn English,” stated Obama. “We know what needs to be done,” continued Obama, vowing to sign a comprehensive immigration reform bill.
Another measure proposed by President Barack Obama, which may affect Charlotte preschool families, includes the raising of the minimum wage to $9.00 an hour, which would bring many out of the poverty level, and possibly change their qualification for free high quality preschool.
In addition, Obama wants to strengthen families by bringing home parents from Armed Services duties in Afghanistan.
Finally, President Barack Obama touched on gun control will-23-executive-orders-stop-gun-violence-schools measures, which may also keep Charlotte preschoolers and their families safer.
