Last week the Queen of England politely passed on a pint, but on Monday the President of the United States didn’t. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are in Ireland for a trip to meet distant relatives in Moneygall and speak at a rally in central Dublin after a concert. However, before he became too serious, he stopped at the local pub and grabbed a pint of beer.
In what had to be an ‘unofficial’ pint of the oval office, the chance to have a big glass of froth topped Guinness was the first order of business. Sitting at the bar, with the beer taps in seeing distance, there apparently was some sipping going on and the cameras captured it all.
Just last week The Queen of England stopped by the manufacturing facility of Guinness on an 'Official' visit. Looking over the company and interacting with the employees, the beer mogul poured the dignitary a cup for her pleasure. While ever so kind, the offer was politely refused and the pint was left on the table.
In what the British press called a potential monstrosity, it was said that a single sip of the beer would have caused the Brits complete outrage as it is uncouth to drink in public on tour. Comparing the two dignitaries and their subsequent actions on drinking in front of the cameras goes to show just how different we still are when you compare American to the British. The Brits refrain from public drinking on camera and the American's raise their glass to get the whole glass in the camera shot
